Responsive Email Design

Make a large impact on Nike’s email marketing efforts.

Nike is the most valuable sports business brand worldwide. It should come as no surprise that their marketing efforts are top of the class and email is no exception. Nike has an enormous email program.

Email marketing has never been so important to marketers. Approximately 50% of the people worldwide use email, which is about 3.8 billion people and about 332.2 billion emails daily.

The primary, overarching goal with the design of the many campaigns, trigger and transactional programs and ad hoc projects, was to deliver a better user experience than ever before.

The Challenge.
Innovate a rich user experience for email.

The real challenge was adapting the approach to new trends and technologies, without losing the core of their identity and voice. Keeping things customer and consumer-centric was vital. Other challenges included innovating a rich user experience without crushing load times, responsive design on multiple devices, adaptable icons and images, personalization, analytics and testing to approximate ROI.

Role.
Senior Visual Designer.

I was responsible for the concept, design, and implementation of Nike.com emails. In addition to hands-on work, color correcting, retouching, layout, and composition, I assisted in the education and development of other designers and team members on style guide and best practices for Nike.com. I also interacted with Strategy and Copywriters to develop concepts and executions for several key initiatives.

Accomplishments include leading the design for several series of campaigns related to multiple categories for sneakerheads, beginner female athletes, trigger program, transactional program, and numerous ad hoc projects.

The Outcome.
Crushing the status quo.

What made these campaigns so successful was the willingness to push and test the status quo and crushing it. From blown out one-page designs to GIF animations that might as well been video, designs were pushed to their limits. Nike garnered tremendous success as a result of the work.
